Mark Twain Prize for American Humor 2019: Dave Chappelle

Done+Dusted returned to the Kennedy Center for our second production of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, honoring comedic icon Dave Chappelle. The 22nd person to receive the award, he was joined by friends from the worlds of comedy, music, and film. The star-studded group included Tiffany Haddish, Jon Stewart, Morgan Freeman, Bradley Cooper, John Legend, Common, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, Neal Brennan, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Keenan Thompson, Lorne Michaels, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, and many others.

We wanted to reinvigorate the awards show format, so we interspersed footage from the ceremony with footage of Dave doing what he does best—live performance. Critics praised the unique hybrid of documentary and awards show, and the show received multiple Emmy nominations.
